Finance Officer

The Agency for Disability and Development in Africa(ADDA) is an independent, human centred and development organization guided by a vision to see an inclusive society in which all persons have equal opportunities regardless of one’s disability. ADDA is looking for a Finance Officer for a period of 7 months with a possibility of an extension subject to performance and availability of funds. The Finance Officer will be based at ADDA’s office in Syokimau Machakos County, and will report to the Executive Director.

Job Purpose

The purpose of this post is to undertake financial management obligations internally within Agency for Disability and Development in Africa (ADDA) and externally with donors. The position also functions as a key and important link between the finance department and other functions across ADDA’s Operations and as well as with external Auditors. The position is responsible for preparation of financial reports and providing advice to the senior management on ADDA’s long term financial health.

Main Roles and Responsibilities

  • Creating and overseeing the annual budget to ensure that the ADDA’s financial resources are allocated efficiently and track their utilization and provide the leadership with updates on project finances and risk management process
  • Providing a high standard of financial accounting ensuring compliance to ADDA, Government and donor regulations consistent with accounting policies, procedures and tools.
  • Reviewing accounting transactions (e.g., vouchers, invoices, journal entries) before entry into the accounting system and oversee cash management processes
  • Preparation of high quality, compliant and timely donor financial reports and ensure full cost recovery is achieved.
  • Participating in external audit exercises and subsequent implementation of the auditors’ recommendations.
  • Participating in the procurement and ensuring proper document filing for an accurate audit trail
  • Ensuring prompt payment and filing of tax returns with proper accounting for statutory deductions e.g. PAYE, NSSF, SHIF and Housing levy
  • Ensuring proper accounting for inventories/fixed assets and their safe custody.
  • Supporting general administrative tasks e.g. filing documents, managing supplier queries and office supplies, and settling dues as per payment policy.

Minimum Qualifications & Experience

  • Undergraduate degree in a finance-related discipline and CPA professional qualifications
  • Minimum three years’ experience with prior experience working in an NGO, donor-funded project, or development sector.
  • Excellent financial management and numeracy skills, including budgeting, re-forecasting and financial reporting
  • Strong organisational skills, with structured and methodical approach to work
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, specifically ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with partners, communities and ADDA funders
  • Proficiency in accounting software such particularly QuickBooks or other financial management systems.
  • High level of integrity and ability to work under pressure with minimal supervision.
  • Fluency in English and Swahili (spoken and written)
